**Patient Education

• USUALLY Long HEAD,

• INSERTION TEAR RARE (usually very heavy lifting)

• ABNORMAL/WEAK TENDON (i.e. degenerated0

• CHRONIC TENDINITIS

• IMPINGEMENT W/ DEGENERATION

• STEROIDS!

• SUDDEN FORCEFUL LIFT OR PULL

• Snow board – trailing uphill hand

• PAINFUL SNAP FOLLOWED BY WEAKNESS, EDEMA, BRUISING, & DEFORMITY

• EXAMINATION

• Depression in proximal arm

• Muscle bunching mid-arm

• Ludington (Sousa)

• Speeds (Sousa)

• Muscle weakness

• TREATMENT

• Like strain – usually conservative

• Surgery when

• >10% loss elbow flexion strength

• >20% loss supination

• WATCH OUT FOR FROZEN SHOULDER
